.VIRTUALLY HALF A CENTURY have passed considering that Morocco claimed prepotency over Western Sahara, a slice of property that stretches for 900km along the Atlantic shoreline to the nation's south. The Polisario Front end-- a resistance group backed by Algeria, Morocco's long-standing rival, and representing the region's aboriginal population, the Sahrawi-- is still fighting for control. In 2020 a 29-year ceasefire broke down. On July 30th France called Morocco's plan for Western Sahara the "merely basis" to deal with the disagreement. Algeria withdrew its emissary to France in feedback.
